The floor in your home should be the item that has been used the longest. But they can also experience damage and need to be replaced. So how do you know when it's time to replace your floors?
1. Carpet tiles
The service life of carpet tiles is generally 5-8 years, depending on their quality and installation method. The lifespan is the shortest of many floor types, but it is also easy to replace. When you can't deal with a stain on a carpet tile, or there is visible damage from extensive wear, it's a sign that it's time to replace one or more carpet tiles.
2. Luxury Vinyl Flooring
Luxury vinyl flooring generally has a lifespan of 10 to 25 years, depending on the type of vinyl flooring and the quality of the installation. LVT floors are an upgrade from the vinyl floors of the past few decades and are thicker and more insulating than traditional vinyl floors. LVT floors are also waterproof, dent and scratch resistant, and easy to install, you can even DIY it yourself. And it also comes in wood, tile or stone finishes for you to choose from. But be warned, if it cracks or tears from moving heavy furniture or appliances, it will need to be replaced. Also, you need to make sure the subfloor is dry before installing your new LVT flooring.
3. Laminate Flooring
Laminate floors can last anywhere from 10 to 30 years, depending on the quality of the floor and proper installation. While affordable, easy to install, and easy to clean, laminate floors must be replaced once damaged because they cannot be refinished or sealed like other floor types. Damage to laminate floors often manifests as warping, which can lead to cracking, splitting, and discoloration. Laminate floors are not waterproof, and water soaking can cause blistering on the edges of the plank. And the retention of moisture can lead to mold and so on. These phenomena are all signs of replacing laminate floors.
4. Tile Flooring
The lifespan of tile floors is generally 20 to 50 years. As one of the most versatile types of flooring, tile is waterproofing. When replacing tiles, you usually only need to replace the damaged one, but not the entire floor. If your tile floor has cracks, you may need to replace the tiles to prevent leaks from damaging the subfloor and causing further problems.
Grout problems are one of the most common problems with tiles that you need to replace. If not properly sealed, grout can absorb moisture and dirt, which can lead to stains, rot, mold or internal damage. Tile may bend or crack with changes due to damage to the underlying layer. So this is something that needs special attention.
